It must be compression that caused one pane of the front window to shudder and create a dangerous beauty.  I sent photos to Art and Sid and Brad at Performance Glass.  Art thought, as we did, that it’s beautiful, but agrees it’s not safe–especially since it sheds little slivers.  Sid never responded. Brad is finally sending a glass guy out today.
